Rebecca Ryan Foundation
In May 2018, we lost our beloved Rebecca Ryan Lavin-Burgher on her 22nd birthday. This loss is immeasurable, as is the love, kindness, creativity, humor, and generosity of spirit that she carried with her wherever she went.
We miss her so much every single day.
In her honor and memory, we have created the Rebecca Ryan Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to two of her greatest passions: music and art. From the Foundation was born the Rocking R Center.
The foundation's mission is to provide affordable music and arts education to young people between the ages of 6 and 18. Through the Rocking R facility, students will grow and develop their musical and artistic abilities, and then, with the help of the foundation, they will discover different areas of the community where they can perform, share, teach, and effect a positive social change.
Music saves lives.
Art saves lives.
Caring for others to form a cohesive, tolerant, growing community saves lives.
Numerous research studies lay out the connection between a child’s exposure to art and music and the corresponding acceleration of the brain development of young children, specifically in the areas responsible for language development, sound, reading skills, and speech perception.
In many public schools, budget cuts have led to reduced or eliminated fine arts programs, which provides the private sector, including non-profits, with the opportunity to fill this void and ensure that children grow up with an understanding of music and art.
By whatever name you knew Rebecca Ryan Lavin-Burgher – Becca, Ryan, Ry-Ry, Rebecca – you knew that she was destined for great things. We established the Rebecca Ryan Foundation so that those great things will indeed happen, in her name, for the benefit of other young people.
